JOB SUMMARY:

In order to ensure successful manufacturing operations, on-time delivery, and efficient and effective production procedures, Portwest, a new garment manufacturing facility in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, is seeking an Operations Manager. Strong leadership qualities, outstanding communication skills, an acute attention to detail, and a thorough awareness of garment production procedures and industry best practices are all essential for the operations manager to have.
OVERVIEW OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

In a factory that produces clothing, an operations manager may be in charge of the following tasks and responsibilities, among others:

  1. Production Planning and Scheduling: Develop and implement production plans and schedules to meet customer demands and delivery deadlines. Optimize production sequences, allocate resources, and adjust schedules as needed to maximize efficiency and minimize downtime.
  2. Quality Assurance: Oversee quality control processes to ensure that garments meet specified quality standards and customer expectations. Implement quality control measures and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and reduce defects.
  3. Inventory Management: Manage inventory levels of raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods to ensure efficient production and minimize overstocking or stockouts. Monitor and analyze inventory turnover rates and implement strategies to optimize inventory management.
  4. Cost Management: Monitor and control production costs to ensure operations stay within budget while maintaining quality and meeting production targets. Identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements to enhance cost-efficiency and profitability.
  5. Team Leadership and Development: Lead and manage a team of supervisors, production staff, and other personnel, providing guidance, coaching, and performance evaluations. Foster a positive work environment, encourage teamwork, and develop the skills and capabilities of team members to enhance productivity and employee morale.
  6. Equipment and Facility Management: Ensure proper maintenance and functionality of production equipment and facilities to ensure a safe and efficient working environment. Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule repairs, upgrades, and preventive maintenance activities.
  7. Compliance and Regulations: Ensure compliance with industry regulations, health and safety standards, labour laws, and environmental requirements. Implement and enforce policies and procedures related to workplace safety, employee conduct, and operational compliance.
  8. Supply Chain Coordination: Collaborate with procurement and supply chain teams to coordinate the timely procurement of materials and supplies needed for production. Optimize supplier relationships to improve lead times, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  9. Communication and Reporting: Communicate production updates, performance metrics, and other relevant information to senior management and stakeholders. Prepare regular reports on production status, efficiency, key performance indicators (KPIs), and other operational metrics.
  10. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization and implement improvements to streamline production processes, increase productivity, and reduce lead times.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 15 years experience. The applicants should have experience in the following area: Production, Quality Control, and Inspection.
  • Bachelor or Diploma in Garment Manufacturing.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English language.
