Project Manager || Istituto Oikos

Istituto Oikos (www.istituto‐oikos.org) founded in Milan in 1996, operates in Europe and in developing countries to promote the responsible management of natural resources and to spread more sustainable life models as tools for socio-economic development and to fight against poverty.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the project’s implementation in accordance with Oikos’ and the European Union’s protocols and guidelines, supervising the project’s overall development and resource utilization and utilizing adaptive management as needed;
  • Make sure the activities are carried out in a way that is pertinent to the target area, effective, and in line with the project’s objectives as well as the organization’s mission and vision.
  • Utilizing the organization’s procedures as well as the laws and regulations of the European Union, carefully manage the project’s budget.
  • Oversee and manage the project team in Wete, making sure that activities are planned appropriately on a weekly and monthly basis and that team performance is consistently tracked.
  • Keep an eye on the cash flow and commitments to make sure that deadlines are met and that employees and contractors are paid on schedule.

Main activities:

  • Together with the former project manager, carry out a comprehensive handover procedure.
  • Create project work plans and oversee the timely and efficient completion of the project.
  • Oversee and manage teams providing technical, advising, and ground assistance.
  • Communicate with and oversee outside vendors and subcontractors as needed.
  • Make sure the beneficiary approves of the finished facility by overseeing and evaluating the overall caliber of the work.
  • Communicate with important project stakeholders and pertinent partners.
  • Observe procurement protocols and oversee contract and internal supporting document development.
  • Create reports that will be sent to funders and assist in the development of technical specifications.
  • Verify that the program complies with both external and internal regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Oikos team to draft project proposals for co-financing, with a primary focus on government grants and foundations.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree from university (Master’s or above) in architecture, civil engineering, or any related field. The need for a Master’s degree may be replaced by an additional two years of relevant work experience combined with a relevant first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 8 years of documented prior experience as a project manager, including expertise overseeing a global project with a minimum 1.5 million euro budget.
  • Strong ethics; practical experience managing contract issues within the framework of EU regulations and standards; a thorough understanding of EU regulations, practices, and standards as well as experience managing an EU grant.
  • The capacity to organize tasks, balance conflicting demands, operate under pressure from frequent deadlines, and do so with little guidance or supervision.
